Change Drive Letters in Windows XP.

When you add drives to your computer, such as an extra hard drive, a CD drive, or a storage device that corresponds to a drive, Windows automatically assigns letters to the drives. However, this assignment might not suit your system; for example, you might have mapped a network drive to the same letter that Windows assigns to a new drive. When you want to change drive letters, follow these steps:

Right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

Under Computer Management, click Disk Management. In the right pane, youll see your drives listed. CD-ROM drives are listed at the bottom of the pane.

Right-click the drive or device you want to change, and then click Change Drive
Letter and Paths.

Click Change, click Assign the following drive letter, click the drive letter you want to assign, and then click OK.

Create Ghost Bootable SD Card or USB Flash Drive.

It's a good practice to create an image of your hard drive before you start using it. Especially when you had to build that computer from scratch and spent hours installing the operating system and all of your favorite apps...

As Symantec Ghost becomes more user friendly, people start to recognize this idea. The idea also works well when you need to clean your PC from viruses. In case anything goes wrong with the operating system, you just need to restore the image using the Symantec bootable CD.

However, the problem comes when we deal with the new version of those small laptops: The netbooks! which usually don't come with a built-in CD-ROM drive to bootup the PC.
The most simple solution would be buying an external CD-ROM drive, which costs you money. And in some cases, you just want to bootup the Symantec Ghost.... with whatever available!

The good news: Almost every recent laptop/netbook comes with a card reader, and even if you wasn't lucky enough, your laptop/netbook should have a USB port!

This guide will tell you how to create a bootable SD card or a USB flash drive with Symantec Norton Ghost.
This task can be done with several different versions of Symantec Ghost; however, the steps from this articles are based on Symantec Ghost 14.

What you need ?

  • Symantec Ghost 14 bootable CD. (Some other versions might also work)
  • A PC with bootable CD/DVD drive.
  • An SD card (either SD or SDHC), or a USB thumb drive. The size can be as minimum as 1 GB. You can also pick a large SD card if you want to store your hard drive image to the card as well.
  • An SD slot or a card reader (for SD card) or a USB slot (for thumb drive)

Follow the steps in order. Use this guide at your own risks.
  1. First, check to make sure your CD/DVD drive is bootable. (See your BIOS manual or PC user guide for details since this is out of the scope of this article).
  2. - For SD card: Make sure the SD slot or the card reader is available. if it's a card reader, connect it to the PC. Also insert the card.
    - For USB thumb drive: Make sure the drive is inserted into one of the USB slots.
  3. Bootup the computer using the Symantec Ghost CD (Details vary on different computers). On Windows XP, during the startup, you should see the prompt "Press any key to boot from CD...".
  4. Once the Symantec Recovery startup is complete, you should see the main screen of Symantec Ghost 14 Recovery similar to this image:

  5. Select "Analyze" from the left menu.
  6. Then click on "Open Command Shell Window". A command prompt window will display.
  7. At this command prompt window, type: "diskpart" (one word, without quotes) and hit enter. The prompt now changed to "DISKPART>"
  8. Now type "list disk" and hit enter. You should now see a list of all available disks. Base on the size of each disk listed, find the one that matching your SD card (or thumb drive) and note its disk number under "Disk ###". If you don't see your SD card (or flash drive) listed, verify if it is inserted or plugged in (you might need to restart the computer and try again).
  9. Type "select disk <n>" (replace <n> with the disk # noted from the previous step) then hit enter.
    Important!! Besure to select the correct disk (your SD card or thumb drive) as you will be erasing the drive.
    Sample image with a 4-GB SD selected:

  10. Create a primary partition for the the disk by executing the following sequence of commands:
    clean
    create partition primary
    select partition 1
  11. Set the primary partition active, type: "active" and hit enter
  12. Perform a quick format with the following command:
    format fs=fat32 quick
  13. Then type:
    assign
    exit
  14. Your SD card (or the flash drive) is now bootable and will act similar to a local hard drive. In order to boot this card with Symantect Ghost Recovery, copy all contents from the Symantec Ghost disc to the SD card (or the flash drive). Besure to copy everything including any hidden files/folders.

    The SD card or flash drive is now bootable and will boot your laptop/netbook to Symantec Ghost Recovery utilities exactly the same way as of the CD (To boot with the card on your laptop/netbook, don't forget to set your bios to search for the SD card or USB external devices in the boot sequence).

Command Prompt on Right-Click.

Many computer users, specially the programmers, need to launch a command prompt window every once in a while to execute some dos/shell commands. The problem is, when a command prompt window launched, the default path is normally the system path or the user profile's path. The users will then have to do all the "cd" commands to change the directories to the path he/she wants.

This trick shows you how to add an option called "Command Prompt" when you right-click on a folder in Windows. With this option, a Command Prompt Window will launch and its current directory will be the path to the folder you've selected.

Use this trick at your own risk.

Here's what you'll get:

The Solution

You can either edit your registry OR download the registry file and apply it on your computer.
Method I. Manually edit the registry:
  1. Start > Run
  2. Enter "regedit" and hit Enter
  3. Expand to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shell"
  4. Right-click on "shell" and select New > Key
  5. Make sure a new key is created under "shell". Change the name of this key to "Command Prompt"
  6. Right-click on this new key "Command Prompt" and select New > Key
  7. Change the name of this key to "command"
  8. Here's what we should have:

  1. Double-click on the "(Default)" text on the right window to bring up the edit box
  2. Enter this text into the Value Data field:
  3. cmd.exe "%1"
  4. Click OK and close the registry.
Method II. Download and apply the registry file:
  • Download this registry file Here
  • Unzip it to a temp folder, then double-click on the .reg file to add the registry data.

    HTML Formatting.

    You may be familiar with some of the formatting options that are available in word processing applications such as Microsoft Office, and desktop publishing software such as QuarkXpress. Well, many of these formatting features are available in HTML too! This lesson contains some of the more common formatting options.

    Headings

    There is a special tag for specifying headings in HTML. There are 6 levels of headings in HTML ranging from h1 for the most important, to h6 for the least important.

    Typing this code:

    <h1>Heading 1</h1>
    <h2>Heading 2</h2>
    <h3>Heading 3</h3>
    <h4>Heading 4</h4>
    <h5>Heading 5</h5>
    <h6>Heading 6</h6>
    Results in this:

    Heading 1

    Heading 2

    Heading 3

    Heading 4

    Heading 5
    Heading 6

    Bold

    You specify bold text with the <b> tag.

    Typing this code:

    <b>This text is bold.</b>

    Results in this:

    This text is bold.

    Italics
    You specify italic text with the <i> tag.

    Typing this code:

    <i>This text is italicised.</i>

    Results in this

    This taxt is italics.

    Line Breaks

    Typing this code:

    <p>Here is a...<br />line break.</p>
    Results in this:
    Here is a line break.

    Horizontal Rule

    Typing this code

    Here's a horizontal rule... <hr /> ...that was a horizontal rule :)

    Results in this:

    Here's a horizontal rule....
    ___________________________
        ..that was a horizontal rule :)

    Unordered (un-numbered) List

    Typing this code:

    <ul> <li>List item 1</li> <li>List item 2</li> <li>List item 3</li> </ul>
    Results in this:
    • List item 1
    • List item 2
    • List item 3
    Ordered (numbered) List

    Note, that the only difference between an ordered list and an unordered list is the first letter of the list definition ("o" for ordered, "u" for unordered).

    Typing this code:

    <ol> <li>List item 1</li> <li>List item 2</li> <li>List item 3</li> </ol>

    Results in this:

    1. List item 1
    2. List item 2
    3. List item 3
    We will be covering more HTML tags throughout this tutorial, but before we do that, you should know about attributes.

    HTML Elements.

    HTML elements are the fundamentals of HTML. HTML documents are simply a text file made up of HTML elements. These elements are defined usingHTML tags. HTML tags tell your browser which elements to present and how to present them. Where the element appears is determined by the order in which the tags appear.

    HTML consists of almost 100 tags. Don't let that put you off though - you will probably find that most of the time, you only use a handful of tags on your web pages. Having said that, I highly recommend learning all HTML tags eventually - but we'll get to that later.

    OK, lets look more closely at the example that we created in the previous lesson.

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>HTML Tutorial Example</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p>Less than 5 minutes into this HTML tutorial and
    I've already created my first homepage!</p>
    </body>
    </html>

    Explanation of the above code:

    • The <!DOCTYPE... > element tells the browser which version of HTML the document is using.
    • The <html> element can be thought of as a container that all other tags sit inside (except for the !DOCTYPE tag).
    • The <head> tag contains information that is not normally viewable within your browser (such as meta tags, JavaScript and CSS), although the<title> tag is an exception to this. The content of the <title> tag is displayed in the browser's title bar (right at the very top of the browser).
    • The <body> tag is the main area for your content. This is where most of your code (and viewable elements) will go.
    • The <p> tag declares a paragraph. This contains the body text.
    Closing your tags

    As mentioned in a previous lesson, you'll notice that all of these tags have opening and closing tags, and that the content of the tag is placed in between them. There are a few exceptions to this rule.

    You'll also notice that the closing tag is slightly different to the opening tag - the closing tag contains a forward slash (/) after the <. This tells the browser that this tag closes the previous one.

    UPPERCASE or lowercase?

    Although most browsers will display your page regardless of the case you use, you should always code in lowercase. This helps keep your code XML compliant (but that's another topic).

    Therefore... Good: <head>
    Bad: <HEAD>

    In the next lesson, we learn about some of the more common formatting tags.

    Getting Started HTML.

    OK, lets get straight into it. Here, you will learn just how easy it is to create a web page. In fact, by the time you've finished with this web page, you will have created your own web page!

    When you create a web page you will usually do something like this:
    1. Create an HTML file
    2. Type some HTML code
    3. View the result in your browser
    4. Repeat the last 2 steps (if necessary)

    Creating a Webpage

    OK, let's walk through the above steps in more detail.

    Create an HTML file

    An HTML file is simply a text file saved with an .html or .htm extension (i.e. as opposed to a .txt extension).

    1: Open up your computer's normal plain text editor (this will probably be Notepad if you're using Windows or TextEdit if you're using a Mac). You could use a specialized HTML editor such as DreamWeaver or FrontPage if you prefer.

    2: Create a new file (if one wasn't already created)

    3: Save the file as html_tutorial_example.html

    Type some HTML code

    Type the following code:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>HTML Tutorial Example</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p>Less than 5 minutes into this HTML tutorial and
    I've already created my first homepage!</p>
    </body>
    </html>

    View the result in your browser

    Navigate to your file then double click on it.

    OR

    Open up your computer's web browser (for example, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape etc).
    Select File > Open, then click "Browse". A dialogue box will appear prompting you to navigate to the file. Navigate to the file, then select "Open".

    Repeat the last 2 steps until you're satisfied with the result
     It's unrealistic to expect that you will always get it right the first time around. Don't worry - that's OK! Just try again and again - until you get it right.

    Explanation of code.
    OK, before we get too carried away, I'll explain what that code was all about.We just coded a bunch of HTML tags. These tags tell the browser what to display and where. You may have noticed that for every "opening" tag there was also a "closing" tag, and that the content we wanted to display appeared in between. Most HTML tags have an opening and closing tag.

    All HTML documents should at least contain all of the tags we've just coded and in that order.

    The next lesson goes into a bit more detail about HTML tags.

    YouTube Videos Tips And Tricks You Should Know...?

    Here is a list of YouTube Tips and Tricks while Using YouTube Services, you will some some tips like How to View High quality videos, Embed Higher Quality Videos,Hide the search box, Embed only a part of Video, Autoplay an embedded video and Many More.

    1. View high quality videos

    Youtube gives you the option to switch to high quality videos for some of the videos, however you can check if a video is available in high quality format by appending ‘&fmt=18′(stereo, 480 x 270 resolution) or ‘&fmt=22′(stereo, 1280 x 720 resolution) for even higher quality.
    2. Embed Higher Quality Videos

    While the above trick works for playback, if however you want to embed hig quality videos you need to append “&ap=%2526fmt%3D18″ and “&ap=%2526fmt%3D22″ to the embed url.
    3. Cut the chase and link to the interesting part

    Linking to a video where the real action starts at 3 minutes 22 seconds, wondered if you could make it start at 03:22? You are in luck. All you have to do is add #t=03m22s (#t=XXmYYs for XX mins and YY seconds) to the end of the URL.
    4. Hide the search box

    The search box appears when you hover over an embedded video. To hide the search box add ‘&showsearch=0′ to the embed url.
    5. Embed only a part of Video

    Just append ‘&start=30′ to skip first 30s of the video. In general you can modify the value after start= to the number of seconds you want to skip the video for.
    6. Autoplay an embedded video

    Normally when you embed a Youtube video and load the page, the player is loaded and it sits there waiting for you to hit the play button. You can make the video play automatically by adding ‘&autoplay=1′ to the url part of the embed code.
    7. Loop an embedded video

    Append ‘&loop=1′ to make the video start again without user intervention after it reaches the end.
    8. Disable Related Videos

    Publishing your content in the form of Youtube video? Don’t want people to see other people’s content that may be related but may as well be in competition to you? Just add ‘&rel=0′ to the end of the url part of the embed code and you just turned off the related video suggestions!
    9. Bypass Youtube Regional Filtering

    Some videos are only available in certain parts of the world. Your IP Address is used to determine your location and then allow or deny access to the video. Change the url from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= to http://www.youtube.com/v/
